Rice Kitchens:
Easing Physical and Spiritual Hunger

The nutritional balance of the world depends upon the rice crop. The redemption of the world depends upon the dissemination of Christ's Gospel. Therefore, people have two basic hungers: physical and spiritual! So in 1971, in order to meet these two basic needs, World Missions Far Corners established a chain of mobile rice kitchens in India. Our objective: to serve areas of disaster, crop failings and the starving--and to present the Gospel in a clear and concise way.

The average American consumes 4.66 pounds of food a day while the average Indian, if he or she is fortunate, eats 1.22 pounds of food a day, mostly rice. The family dog in America eats better food and more of it than the Indian worker. A sack of rice costing $25 will feed about 300 adults at a cost of about 8.3 cents each, or 400 children at a cost of 6.2 cents each. We add oil, vegetables, curry and meat (fish or mutton) to make it go farther. We grow much of our own vegetables and raise some meat on our 65-acre complex. On average over a period of years, about 48 percent of those who eat at a WMFC rice kitchen will accept Christ.

Preaching the Gospel is the most important enterprise in the world. The rice kitchens are a means to that end. World Missions Far Corners must have partners. None of us working alone could have such a miraculous record of achievement on a continuing basis as the rice kitchens.
